Your Four Step Moving Checklist

Lists for moving house

Did you know that the average American moves 10 times over the course of their life? That is a lot of packing up. Many people will be moving this year for new jobs, family, retirement, and more besides. Moves are stressful, and in fact, only rank behind divorce and death as the most stressful life events. There are ways, however, to make your move more easy to handle. Here is a three step moving list to help you out!

First item on your moving list, plan ahead! The majority of people underestimate how much time and labor it will take them to move. Start by packing up least used items months ahead of time, and work from there. See how long it takes to box up just a single room, and you will probably be surprised by how many boxes you need and how long it takes to arrange it all. Remember that this is a time for fresh starts, so get rid of anything that you do not really need and that is only cluttering up the curtains. Reward yourself with a few new furniture pieces, and save yourself the hassle of bringing the old ones along.

Second, no moving list would be complete without mentioning that there are multiple options for transportation. Most people immediately think of moving vans, and indeed, that is one reliable choice. But there are also moving pods, self moving, and several options besides. It pays to do research and see. For example, did you know that moving companies charges less on average during the middle of the week, and middle of the month? Being flexible with your moving dates can help save you money.

Third, movers are experienced and know to be as gentle as possible, but at the same time, you are working with literally dozens of cardboard boxes that are going to be picked up, jostled, and moved about continuously for many hours. Make sure that any moving company on your moving list is covered by insurance, and read up on reviews to make sure they generally provide good customer service.

Fourth, make your own check list for moving to make sure things occur on schedule. Helpful info also found here: mymovingchecklist.net
